How is Your Heart? Part 2

How is your heart of faith? (Part 2)

TEMPORARY HEART

This time, the seed is thrown upon rocky soil, when initially a plant will spring up and shine vibrantly.  Since this is rocky soil lacking nourishment, there are no root systems established for the plant to sustain life.  For these people who hear the Word, they are joyful and excited about the good news of Jesus, but for the fact that worldly pleasures are hard to let go of and give up to God, this belief is very shallow.  The belief is very surface and merely a fad that will dissipate overtime as the hardships of life spring up around them.  To think being a Christian will solve your biggest problems, is a mistake, in fact the Christian life is usually harder, ultimately more rewarding, which is a long term goal, that this type of heart can't wait for.  Continuing in Matthew's gospel, as Christians we need encourage day-to-day from each other, and if you believed at one time, you can't always do it alone.  A praying life shouldn't be a private life, for the praying could be prey to the evil one.

Matthew 13:5-6, 20-21
Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. The one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away.

Luke 8:13
Those on the rock are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away.

1 Timothy 4:1
The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.

Hebrews 3:12-14
See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first.

Did you go to church with family or a friend and feel excitement?  The vibrant worship songs and the friendliness of other believers struck a chord in your heart, but now you are stepping out of the way?  You enjoyed the "church life" and the "clean fun" but you find it hard to stick with it because it's not familiar and it's more comfortable to live life like you always have.  God knows your heart, He knows your thoughts, and He loves you just the same!  If you know the Truth of Jesus Christ, God knows you as His child.  Don't be afraid to let go of something in your "worldly" life because in your "spiritual" life there is an entire population to stand with you, to befriend you and to love you.  The place in God's heart is never given away to someone else who stayed on the path and didn't stray.  He would leave His whole flock to find the one lost sheep, and be overjoyed to bring the one sheep home again.

How is Your Heart? Part 1

How is your heart of faith?
Hello all,
I adopted this concept from my home church, Knott Avenue, and I will break it down into 4 parts.  The concept is an explanation of the different kinds of hearts someone has toward faith, in "religion" and in God.  If you are not a believer you may very well fall under an unexpected category and even as a believer you may feel like a different category describes you than what you expected.

Jesus often taught in Parables, which comes from the Greek words Para-alongside, Ballo-to throw, to put a well-known truth together with an unknown truth to reveal a moral that will give a deeper understanding of a situation involving unbelievers and fellow believers.

HARD HEART

Essentially, when the "seed was sown" (when someone heard The Word of God), it landed on hard soil, where it cannot be rooted to grow and flourish. Those with a hard heart who hear the Word won't be saved because they have chosen to turn a deaf ear and a BLIND MIND to the perception of God's grace.  It is a choice.  It's too much work, or too impossible, and they won't believe.  As told in Matthew's gospel, the Word will be taken swiftly by Satan, who's main objective is for any arrow that tries to penetrate the unbeliever's heart.  The arrow will be snapped in two, in midair, their heart will not be penetrated by The Word.

 Matthew 13:3-4, 18-19
Then he told them many things in parables, saying: "A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. "Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path.

Luke 8:12- Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved.

2 Corinthians 4:3-4- And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 4The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

Matthew 13:13-15- This is why I speak to them in parables: "Though seeing, they do not see;  though hearing, they do not hear or understand.  In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah:  " 'You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.  For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes.  Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.

In closing, have you heard The Word but let it fall on deaf ears, or fall against a closed heart?  Do you see and not believe?  Do you hear not heed?  If you'd like more information, you can always ask me.  I have some answers and a testimony, but more importantly I have resources and a network of people who can outline the core beliefs and the truth of the grace of God.  This isn't a shiney new bicycle, or a brand new pair of shoes, because this love will never fade and it will never fail you.  God's love goes through each trial with you, even when you are running away from Him, He is holding your spot in His heart.

Outcast at the Cross?

Alone in the Dark? On the outside, looking in?

How long, O LORD? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? PSALM 13:1

What purpose could possibly be served by depression? Why would some of God's greatest servants be touched with it?
Some people believe the words Christian and depression should never appear in the same sentence. They believe that a person whose Bible proclaims, "The joy of the LORD is your strength" (Nehemiah 8:10), should know better than to be unhappy.

King David, we know, cried out in melancholy many times through the psalms. "God, who comforts the depressed, comforted us by the coming of Titus" (2 Corinthians 7:6), written by Paul, certainly knew seasons of darkness and despair. Biblical figures such as Moses, Job and Elijah went through overwhelming valleys of doubt and fear.

So if either of you find yourself under the heavy weight of depression today, grappling to work free but not always able to win the fight, you're not alone in your struggle. Your suffering is not unknown by God. Your dark circumstances are not beyond His power to heal, restore and redeem.

As you seek God for relief, take a measure of comfort in your good company.

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.  You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.  I will be found by you," declares the LORD. Jeremiah 29:11

In my distress I called to the LORD;  I cried to my God for help.  From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears. Psalm 18:6

If you are greiving, desparaging, crying, aching, the people you know may understand how you feel.  The words they lend as a tender helping hand may not feel like much at all.  But always know, God meets you right where you are.  He gave His Son to feel the weight of this world and to live in our world, to die for our world, so that He may have compassion and empathy for His created ones.  Take comfort in knowing, our Creator gave us the tools, the love, and the voice to express even our saddest emotions.  He is always listening, He is always here.

Katy Perry on Sesame Street

So the newest controversary for celebs today is the appearance of Katy Perry on Sesame Street.  There are differing opinions from parents all over, even those without children have been vocalizing their opinions.

-It's offensive to see someone so poorly dressed on kids show!

-Her dress was not too short or low-cut at all!

-The kids are more interested in Elmo than Katy!

-I need to protect my kids from this kind of sexualization!

I do have a 2 year old who is infatuated with Elmo.  I've got a feeling she'd be more enthralled by the red fuzzy monster dashing around the room, instead of the popular celebrity up on the screen.  She'd go ga-ga over the puppets and care less about the actual person on screen.
What is your opinion of her attire and Sesame Street's decision?

Blushing like tomatoes

In our attempt to "Go Green" and share our green thumb (or lack thereof) with the world, my husband and I purchased a hanging tomato plant!  You know the type in the green basket, hang it upside down, and out the plant drops as its vines grow.  It was half-dead for weeks, yellow leaves, pathetic green oblongs (supposed sprouts) and just an overall let down.

After weeks of watering, heat wave, misty rain, blaring sunshine, windy drear and so forth, the glory of the upside down tomato basket reveal mother nature's luster to us!
